I am frequently asked about the best sites to both learn about homebrew and to buy homebrew equipment. Here is my list.
Note – This article has started to rank for “best homebrew kegerator.” If you are searching for the best kegerator for homebrew kegs click here.
Best Sites To Learn About Homebrew
- HomeBrewTalk – this forum is filled with everything you could possibly want to know about homebrew. The community is active and the many of the members know their shit.
- BeerAdvocate – in addition to publishing one hell of a magazine, BeerAdvocate also has one of the most active beer communities on the Web. There active members in this forum who can help you with anything you possibly want to know about homebrewing.
- Brewboard – this forum might look like something you puked up last St. Patricks day, but it actually has a vibrant community of passionate beer geeks.
- Beersmith – this software is the homebrewer’s best friend. You can also pickup the CD version of the software from Amazon.
- Brewtoad – social community geared towards homebrew.
- TastyBrew – this site might look like poop, but it does have a wide assortment of homebrew recipes.
- RealBeer – this site is a little patched work. There is still a nice community of avid beer makers and drinkers that hang out here.
Best Sites To Buy Homebrew Equipment
- Kegerator.com – this company has been selling kegerators, including homebrew kegerators for over a decade. They only recently started selling homebrew equipment too but the prices are great.
- Midwest Supplies – they are a well respected supplier of homebrew equipment. I linked specifically to their forum.
- Northern Brewer – I am a big fan of the video clips these guys offer. They refer to it as Brewing TV. I always get the impression when I watch these people that they thoroughly enjoy their jobs. Then again, people who get paid to work with beer should enjoy their jobs.
- HomebrewFinds – this site is different than the others on the list because it isn’t an ecommerce website. The webmaster finds the very best prices on homebrew equipment and posts those deals for his visitors to enjoy. It is a very cool formula, and I get the impression that the owner is a very chill fellow.
- MoreBeer – the name of this company cracks me up. Who could ever turn down the deliciousness of more beer. In reality, this company is one of the most established homebrew suppliers. I’ve linked to their very active forum.
Find A Local Homebrew Club
- Homebrewers Association – they have a massive list of local homebrew clubs. Select your state and you are likely to find a local group.
Man, I kind of suck at making top ten lists. I always end up with either one too many sites or one too few. I guess in this case, I will simply refer to this as my list of the best homebrew websites. Other than having eleven sites, I actually think I did a pretty good job.
If you think I happened to miss a worthy homebrew site, please feel free to add it to this post using the comments section. While I hate spam, I am a huge fan of community. Be sure to use homebrew in a responsible manner. By that, I of course mean don’t spill any or feed it to the dog. When done well, it tastes far too good for that.
Nice list here, I like all of the sites that you have listed and they are all helpful. I have a site/forum with about 400 user right now that has been growing quite a bit in the last year that you might want to check out. http://www.beerborg.com
Thanks again,
Leigh
